Simeon Jackson (If you’re looking for the footballer, click here.)

Candidate for Sewell Ward: Standing in Norwich City Council elections on Thursday 2nd May 2019

Simeon was a Green Party city councillor between 2013 and 2018, representing Mancroft Ward. Having moved to live just off Silver Road, he is now standing to represent Sewell Ward.

Some of his achievements whilst on the council were:

  • Campaigning for better air quality, including calling for bus companies to upgrade their fleet to low-emission vehicles, which they are now starting to do,
  • Challenging dubious viability claims used by developers to get out of their obligation to build affordable housing,
  • Voicing concerns about the way in which the city has gone about cycle path projects, often without understanding the needs of various user groups (especially the visually impaired),
  • Successfully lobbying for changes to the council’s River Wensum Strategy where it would have negatively impacted on the privacy and safety of riverside residents.

He continues to campaign on these and many other local issues.  In particular, he is a vocal opponent of the recent scheme for Anglia Square, which he says “would create an inappropriately tall mass of low-quality buildings and would not meet the needs of the local community.”

Simeon works as an architectural professional on St Augustines Street, and uses his knowledge of architecture and design to push for planning policies that preserve our city’s heritage, make the city more environmentally sustainable and provide a better environment for us all to live and work in.

Simeon is active in many local community groups, including Norwich Farmshare, The Norwich Society, the Cathedral Magdalen and St Augustines Forum, and the St Augustines Community Together Residents Association.

He said: “The Green Party is the strong opposition party that we need to make Norwich a better place for Norwich residents, as well as lower our impact on our shared environment. Please vote Green on 2nd May.”
